Project AMI, Against Malaria and Illiteracy

Today, many groups are involved in helping curb malaria deaths around the wrold. These NGO's usually come to existence from individuals or group initiative. It is in this perspective the project Against Malaria and Illiteracy (AMI) was born from the difficult expereinces few of the members have had with the deadly disease while they were visiting the country of Senegal. As a result of that two of the members of the organization have returned to the region of Kedougou, Senegal and conducted a film documentary to learn more about the lives of the villagers living on the mountains. To our great surprise, we have identified 18 villages that didn't have any sort of medical infrastructure at about 70 to 80km radius.

The populations of the following villges Hibel, Bandafassi, Ndebou, Chokotian, Bande, Eol, Lande, Baitil, just to name a few, have not seen mosquito bed nets for the last 3 years according to our survey. The blood born disease of malaria is claiming a high toll in these populations because they are too poor to afford a trip to the nearest city and purchase a five dollar mosquito bed net. These villagers use hamocks to carry their malaria infected patients down the mountain and when they reach a dirt road, they pray that a passing vehicle would evacuate a patient that is at the last stages battling for their life against malaria.

In this atmosphere of desperation the project AMI team took up the challenge to mobilize people and give hopt to the population of Kedougou by raising every dollar to purchase mosquito bed nets and help protect the populations that are exposed to the deadly mosquito.

We know that many NGO's send the products to the destined area hoping it would get to the people in need. We realize that corruption is prevalent in most parts of the world and NGO's need to be aware of corruption. In the uniqueness of our strategy the project AMI team will send volunteer officers into the field to direct the operation so that the nets will get to the destined people. We will make sure that every dollar of your donation will help improve someone's life and give hope.
